Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and friends (Malbec and Cabernet Franc) is a classic blend so enjoyed by wine lovers all over the world. The fruit for this wine was predominantly sourced from estate grown vineyards in the village of Bethany, the heart of Bethany Wines. The resulting wine shows opulent dark fruit characters combined with a robust and persistent framework of tannin. The wine demonstrates the varietal character and clarity possible with grapes grown on the Eastern edge of the Barossa Ranges.

Wine Details
Dense and lively fuller bodied palate of dark berry fruits and light clove and bay leaf characters. A rich and full bodied tannin structure provides excellent drive and direction with a rich and lingering finish of dark fruits and rich dark chocolate. Each parcel was individually fermented with a high percentage of whole berry inclusion to maximise fruit expression. Fermentation lasted 7-10 days depending on the parcel and twice daily hand pumpovers or irrigations ensured a gentle extraction of tannin, flavour and colour. At the end of maceration the wine was pressed to a combination of seasoned and new (13%) French oak to mature for 18 months.

Viticulture
The 2022 vintage overall was a very balanced and excellent vintage. Adequate rainfall in 2021 was followed by a heavy hailstorm which did create some damage in the Shiraz vineyards. However, the main summer ripening season was blessed by moderate temperatures with no very hot days and cool nights. This led to a long and gentle ripening period allowing all fruit to achieve full flavour maturity along with sugar ripeness. The outcome was a long harvest period without any undue pressure from the weather and both white and red grapes showing great flavour intensity, excellent retention of acid and in the case of the red grapes, exceptional colour density.
