Meet the Bethany Wines Cellar Door team

Our cellar door might be shut because of COVID-19. But our Bethany Wines cellar door team are still here working behind the scenes to welcome you back soon.

You might know a little about our family and our wine making team. But we thought you should know a bit about the amazing team that welcome our guests to cellar door.

Karyn, Kim, Helen and Jo are the face of Bethany Wines. They’re the smiling faces that greet you at cellar door. They love our wines as much as we do, and they love sharing the stories behind those wines.                     

They’re a wealth of knowledge, not just about the Bethany Wines story, but about the Barossa.

And there’s no doubt they’re missing pouring our wines and telling our story, just as we are.

So until you can visit us, here’s an introduction from each of our Bethany Wines cellar door team.


I’mfrom Adelaide but I married a Barossa “local” and have been living here for 15 years. You’ve got to at least have a grandparent buried here to meet theofficialBarossa definition of a local.

When I’m not at work, I’m running my kids around to school and their activities. On Saturday nights we like to cook a nice steak on the BBQ. It’s served with my homemade Red Wine Jus – which may just have a splash of Bethany Tawny added.

Each work day is different but always includes lots of chatting about wine. Almost every visitor asks us, “do you ever get sick of the view?” No, the view out over the Barossa Valley is amazing and changing throughout the seasons. 

Definitely the best part about working in Cellar Door are the conversations with customers. Most of our visitors are on holidays or enjoying a day out. It’s a privilege to provide great customer service when you have such lovely people to interact with at work.

My favourite memory from work is Vintage Festival 2019 when we hosted a dinner showcasing ourGR Reserve Shiraz. The setting was perfect. A marquee in front of our Cellar Door overlooking the Barossa Valley. The company of our guests was great, the food amazing and the wine perfectly matched.


My favourite memory at Bethany would have to be from before I worked here. And it’s the reason I work here.

I was on a tour and we tasted the first vintage ofLE Shiraz, the 2006. It was nothing like I’d ever experienced in a Barossa Shiraz and everything I never knew I loved.

Soon after, I saw an ad for a Cellar Door position. And here I am, just over 9 years later and loving being part of this family company.

My favourite wine is Riesling, all styles and regions. I especially love mouth-watering, super acidic, citrus, minerally, dry styles from the Eden and Clare Valleys. But watch out for Mt Gambier Riesling. And anything from 2011 has my hands twitching to get hold of it.

I’m a country girl at heart. I love big open spaces and watching the dark sky light up with stars. My most treasured moments are spending time with my family, especially our biannual trip to the NT. I love spending time with my dad and the rest of the family.

I love camping with my boys for fun. But mostly we go camping when I’m competing in target shooting. This is a lifelong passion of mine and over the years, I’ve travelled in Australia and internationally to compete.

I also love cooking, especially when it’s someone’s birthday at work.


Passionate is a word we often hear. But it’s so appropriate when talking about how we feel about our lifestyle in the Barossa and South Australia. 

Good quality fresh whole foods are very important to my family. On trips to Adelaide, the Central Market is a must stop. Shopping locally is important, and it’s great to support our local food and wine producers.

My favourite memory from working at Bethany was aman entering the cellar door very enthusiastically. On arrival he said, 'I think I am probably your best Bethany Shiraz customer. I’m visiting from Melbourne and this is my first time at Bethany and the Barossa’.

His wife following close behind confirmed that this was likely to be the case. He thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the range available at Bethany.

There is one question I get asked a lot. ‘Did they cut out the rock so they could build the winery in it?’ We’re built into the Bluestone Quarry, which is a significant part of the Schrapel family andBethany Wines history.

 When not at work, I enjoy keeping fit by exercise classes and walking. Our kelpie also keeps me company at home.


I love the ‘a-ha’ moment people have when they try a wine for the first time. I love doing tastings and analysing the different wines and seeing what other people taste in wine. Whether they’re learning about wine or know a lot, I like helping people find new wines they enjoy.

On my weekends off, I love spending time with family and friends. I enjoy camping at the river, going to the beach or visiting wineries. I enjoy making different food to enjoy with friends and a big glass of wine. I love anything a little alternative, like Durif.

I’m a Port Adelaide fan through and through and looking forward to the AFL getting started again.
