James Halliday once again rates Bethany Wines highly in his Australian Wine Companion. Read his comments on each wine:

GR9 Reserve Shiraz 2004: 94 points
Ripe but relatively restrained blackberry and black cherry fruit on the medium-bodied palate; both tannins and oak carefully handled and balanced; Bethanys icon wine made only in the best years, and with less that 700 dozen produced in any year.

GR8 Reserve Shiraz 2002: 93 points
Shows the cool 02 vintage to advantage; medium-bodied, but intense flavours ranging from spicy to gently black fruits, with a twist of mocha.

Eden Valley Riesling 2006: 91 points
Strong scented apple and citrus blossom aromas; the rich, full-flavoured palate is slightly at odds with the finer bouquet, whatever, makes a good glass now.

Shiraz Cabernet 2004: 91 points
Medium to full red-purple; an abundance of black fruits, licorice, plum and prune, touched off with mocha and chocolate;ripe tannins, good length.

Semillon 2005: 90 points
Crisp, clean and fresh;belies its alcohol;a very interesting wine, relying on restrained winemaking, the exclusion of oak, and 45 year ol vines. link to 2005 Semillon

Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2006: 90 points
No reduction whatsoever;the sauvignon blanc from the neighbour with a cool site;a real suprise packet, offering flavour without phenolics. link to 2006 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc
