Every year during October the Barossa celebrates all things Riesling, a variety that is both delicious & versatile.

At Bethany Wines we source our Riesling grapes from the Batten vineyard and Goodchild vineyard in Eden Valley for our dry style Rieslings. A strong partnership which has continued for many years and allowed us to produce various styles of Rieslings to suit all tastes.

Our late picked Riesling is harvested by hand from our own Quarry vineyards located just in front of the cellar door. The fruit may look shriveled and golden at the time of picking but this is perfect for sweetness and flavour.

The result is some truly stunning wines in 2022. We have Shiraz of exceptional aromatic purity and brightness with fine and significant tannins giving structure and freshness. Cabernet is a true standout this year, it always benefits from a more gentle growing season and that is certainly what it got in 2022. The whites are balanced and bright across the board and Grenache and its friends all benefited from time on the vine (as opposed to high warmth) to develop full, bright and rich flavours.

It was a long vintage (first crush 28 January, last press 29 April), so there were a few tired heads around in May, but the results will most definitely be worth it! Enjoy, Alex MacClelland

We finished Vintage 2020 as the world started to experience the effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic. So none of us really knew what Barossa’s 2021 Vintage would be like.

2020 marks the 39th vintage for Bethany Wines. After a dry summer, we knew it would be a tough vintage. But no-one could have imagined we'd be making wine during a global pandemic. Fortunately that didn't stop our winemaking team, so in this blog, winemaker Alex MacClelland shares his thoughts on this milestone vintage.

Our cellar door might be shut because of COVID-19. But our Bethany Wines cellar door team are still here working behind the scenes to welcome you back soon.

You might know a little about our family and our wine making team. But we thought you should know a bit about the amazing team that welcome our guests to cellar door.

Kim, David and Jo are the face of Bethany Wines. They’re the smiling faces that greet you at cellar door. They love our wines as much as we do, and they love sharing the stories behind those wines.

They’re a wealth of knowledge, not just about the Bethany Wines story, but about the Barossa.

And there’s no doubt they’re missing pouring our wines and telling our story, just as we are.

So until you can visit us, here’s an introduction from each of our Bethany Wines cellar door team.
